Lots of good information there! At the risk of being pedantic, the SM57 has a "transformer". Regarding kick drum, I never liked any of the sound samples I heard of popular kick mics so I tried a Behringer BA 19A and am quite pleased with the sound without any EQ. I only use a little muffling on the batter head (Evans EQ4) to eliminate the chatter I was feeling through the pedal. I recently added a DIY subkick which provides a ton of low end.

Thank you for contributing! I'm alway thinking about making my own sub kick, but there always seems to be some more important use of my time. But one day I'll try it

Great info ,thanks again Gabriel...I'm only interested in Audio / recording for myself for home use ..not for making RUclips videos.
I m also a novice , I will have to maybe look into this further.

I'm glad you like it. Nothing wrong with doing it just for you. As soon as I get this material a bit more organized I plan to make an entire course around it on my website.

Hi Gabriel, thanks. As a part two to this video could you show mic positioning and your preferences (what works well for you). And then a part three video if you route your mic’s to your own IEM rig using mic splitters. For me I use a Roland TD27kv2 kit which only has four direct sends, hence, kick, snare, Tom’s and cymbals. That said, at some point I will migrate back to an acoustic kit (of which the mic setup is important to control myself) but I would want to control my own stage sound independent of the sound engineer. Your tips on how you hear yourself live with you own mic rig would be insightful. Cheers and thanks again for giving of your time. It’s so helpful compared to where things were 40 years ago.

Thank you for the video ideas. It's funny you should mention signal splitting. I used to have a very elaborate way of monitoring myself with the use of an analog mixer. Eventually I realized that in my small studio performing with just me and tracks that as long as I mute the overheads and other secondary mics (i.e. snare side, kick front and hi hat) that I can hear fine for what I do. Thank you again for sharing this. You're right, we have come a long way in monitoring since "the wedge"

Great video. I will absolutely check out those cables. 2 Questions.
    1) how far do you have your under the snare mic to the wires?
    2) do you encounter phase issues or have to flip the phase in your daw on any mics?

The snare side mic is actually a bit far from the drum to be called a "close" mic lol It's about 4.5 inches from the bottom. ...and I always check the phase on the kick mics.

Hi Gabriel - checking out your videos and website. Great stuff! I noticed the main page of your website shows two very different costs for monthly and annual membership. $29.99/ 229.99
And also $64.89/month or $676.54/year. The former appearing more official?
